CONCERIA WALPIER (ITALY)

Walpier Tannery, located in Tuscany, Italy, is part of the Consorzio Vera Pelle — a group dedicated to preserving the art of traditional vegetable tanning. With generations of experience, Walpier is known for producing some of the finest full-grain veg-tanned leathers in the world.

Their flagship leather, Buttero, is prized for its smooth, dense surface, vibrant colors, and ability to burnish and patina with use. Made from premium European hides and tanned slowly with natural tannins, Buttero offers a clean, refined finish.

The Leathers that become yours

Every TELLER piece starts with leather sourced from trusted ITALIAN, FRENCH and AMERICAN tanneries —  places renowned for their heritage and quality.

These five distinguished tanneries represent the best of leather-making heritage -  combining expert craftsmanship, traditional methods, and a commitment to quality. Though each has its own unique history and story, they all share a dedication to producing leathers with exceptional beauty, durability, and character.

BADALASSI CARLO (ITALY)

Badalassi Carlo is a renowned Tuscan tannery and proud member of the Vegetable Tanned Leather Consortium. Known for their rich, character-driven leathers, they specialize in offerings like Pueblo and Minerva Box — both full of depth, texture, and personality.

Compared to smoother leathers like Buttero of CONCERIA WALPIER, Pueblo and Minerva Box have a more matte, textured surface that softens beautifully over time. They develop a warm, lived-in look as they age, making them ideal for goods that feel both refined and organic.

Pueblo is one of my absolute favorite vegetable-tanned leathers — a pleasure to work with every time, thanks to its unique feel, finish, and the way it evolves with use.

HORWEEN LEATHER CO. (USA)

Horween Leather Company, founded in 1905 in Chicago, is one of the oldest tanneries in the U.S. They’re known for producing premium leathers — including the leather used to make NFL footballs.

I use Horween leather for its deep color, natural finish, and the way it wears in — not out. From the rich pull-up of Chromexcel to the unmatched quality of Shell Cordovan, every hide tells a story.

Shell Cordovan is made through a six-month, hand-finished process using a specific layer of horsehide. It’s dense, smooth, and develops a deep patina that lasts generations. Horween represents a true legacy of craftsmanship, tradition, and authenticity.

ALRAN (ITALY)

Alran is a prestigious tannery founded in 1923 in France, celebrated for its high-quality vegetable-tanned leathers made using traditional, time-honored methods.

Their signature leather, Sully, is a full-grain chevre leather crafted from premium goat hide. Known for its exceptional softness, fine grain, and natural durability, Sully undergoes a slow vegetable tanning process that brings out deep, rich colors and allows the leather to develop a beautiful, lasting patina over time.

Sully is prized by artisans and brands for its supple feel and classic, natural finish. Its combination of strength and elegance makes it perfect for luxury leather goods such as wallets, gloves, and accessories that age gracefully with use.

WICKETT & CRAIG (USA)

Wickett & Craig, established in 1867 in Pennsylvania, is one of the few remaining vegetable tanneries in the U.S. With a focus on traditional methods and sustainable practices, they produce some of the finest veg-tanned leathers in the world.

Their renowned Traditional Harness leather is hot stuffed with a proprietary mix of waxes and tallows, giving it a rich color, smooth finish, and exceptional durability. The process enhances both strength and flexibility, while allowing the leather to develop a deep, beautiful patina over time.

Wickett & Craig stands for a true legacy of craftsmanship, tradition, and authenticity — making their leather as enduring as it is beautiful.
